We export to clients around the globe
The Eccles story begins in West Bromwich, 1955, 10 years after the grief and sorrow of World War II.
A young, hopeful, excited and ambitious Alan Eccles launched Eccles Light Engineering to design and manufacture high quality castings, using the design expertise developed during his service in the British Army during the war.
Eccles has since grown to be a worldwide supplier of access covers, gully gratings, composite covers and drainage systems, creating innovative products that offer remarkable value across multiple sectors.
Sadly, Alan is no longer with us today. However, his passion for design and value lives on.
His grandsons, Adam and Luke Eccles, drive the business forward, retaining the family ethos, hard work, commitment and dedication that has always made Eccles such a great British success.
Our experienced in-house design and testing team have a wealth of industry knowledge combined with dealing with norms, specifications and standards.
We also have the state-of-the-art software, so we can design products from scratch or simply review our own current designs in order to run simulations of real life scenarios to see how the product will react in any given environment and under any given conditions.
On top of this we further run our designs through CAD stress analysis and FEA analysis to identify potential weak spots, so we can refine our designs on every part of the cover so it’s not just built to pass a test but to provide a solution that is above and beyond any and all requirements before any product reaches production.
After refining the design, we build the tools to the design specification we need to the make each product. The design is then put into production at one of our BSI certified global manufacturing facilities. After casting, fettling, sand blasting and painting the samples are ready to be tested.
All our products are manufactured in our BSI certified global manufacturing facilities. We have chosen some of the foremost modern and creditable foundries to partner with to manufacture our products. Our BSI Certified global manufacturing sites are continually inspected and audited by some of the world’s most renowned third-party bodies to provide continuous leading levels of reliability, consistency and quality.
Our certified global manufacturing sites hold internationally recognised accreditation to the ISO9001. We have selected a diverse manufacturing base, which utilises many methods of casting ranging from fully-automated ‘green sand casting’, through to shell moulding and lost foam casting alongside the traditional hand moulding method.
This enables us to offer a flexible range of production capabilities and capacity, allowing us to cast a diverse range of products in many sizes and in any quantity whilst working to tight deadlines and maintaining quality. You can be assured our products are made to the highest standards with leading quality assurance processes.
Our quality assurance process begins before a single product is cast. Our in-house design engineers refine and perfect our products through 3D modelling and computer-aided stress analysis. It’s with these digital processes that we are able not only to continue to innovate new and exciting products for our customers but to offer a full, end-to-end actualisation service for entirely bespoke solutions.
Furthermore, our in-house state of the art testing facility enables us to further research, develop, inspect and test products continuously whilst running a thorough quality management system. Ensuring that we offer a reliable, consistent product with the best available certification and accreditation.
Eccles’ products are now compliant with the new UK Conformity Assessed (CE) Mark, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to product quality and safety standards.
We are committed to demonstrating the integrity and quality of our access covers and frames and ensuring we provide leading levels of quality and reliability throughout our entire range of products. Our achievements are demonstrated by being one of the first companies globally to be awarded certification from the British standards institute for the most recent EN standard for access covers and frames BS EN124-2015.
BS EN124-2:2015 is the most recent European standard, applicable to gully tops and manhole tops with a clear opening up to and including 1000m. In moving from the previous accreditation (BS EN124:1994), we have completed yet more stringent testing to transition our kitemark to the latest certification.
Eccles is a business that strives for continuous improvement, and we look to build upon our core values of industry-leading astuteness, high-integrity product safety and unmatched reliability. Our rich history and strong values enable us to work closely with the civil engineering and construction sectors. With our experience and understanding of this industry, Eccles’ has established a well-known and competitive brand. Demonstrated by our achievement of the highest possible third-party accreditation from the British Standard Institute (BSI) for our range of manhole covers and gully grates. |
Goods destined for our UK stock are shipped from our global manufacturing facilities and then transported to our warehouse facility in the West Midlands, where we hold one of the largest stock profiles of ductile and composite access covers and gully grates in the country.
